Proportional Representation Voting for Barbados

 Introducing PRS

A Proportional Representation System in Barbados would give us an opposition automatically by preventing another 30 to 0 election outcome.   The principle behind a Proportional Representation System is that each party will get a number of seats in the parliament in PROPORTION to the number of votes that party got.  Please note the distinction between votes and seats.

What this means is that if a party gains 40% of the votes it will get 40% of the seats in Parliament. For example, in the case of Barbados, if a party gained 40% of the vote it would gain 12 seats which is 40/100*(30).  Following is a complete example of how seats would be assigned under a Proportional Representation System.
