Conclusion
What we have done here, is offer a more detailed, but not overly complex description of Proportional Representation Systems, with the hope that Barbadians can open ourselves, to alternative ways of doing things political, in an effort to raise the bar on our democracy.
Of course, there are several different approaches to Proportional Representation. But the specifics about how a system will operate can be worked out.
What we now need to do is dig deeply into our hearts and minds and prepare ourselves to make hard decisions as we approach the end our 59th year of independence and move into our 60th year.
It is time to adopt a mature approach to our system of democracy. What quality of government do want? Are we satisfied with the way things have been run? Ours is the choice to make.
But two things should be clear. Number one is that any system we choose should make us the master and not the servant. In other words, we should receive maximum benefits from the system and be able to exert more control over our representatives.
Number two is this. Whatever choice we make, we will have to live with it in the same way we had to live with two 30 to zero elections until divine providence sent us some relief. Do we really want to put ourselves in the same situation again?
